Chief UK Medical Officer recommends only 280 IU for children - Jan 2011

Only 280 U for ages 6 months to 5 years

And only 400 IU for those groups at-risk {Note: It appears that a-risk individuals should really have at least 4,000 IU}

  • older people aged 65 and over
  • pregnant and breastfeeding women
  • anyone who is housebound for long periods of time
  • people who cover their skin for cultural reasons
  • people from ethnic minorities with darker skin
